To the Illustrious Lady,
The Lady Giulia Bandina Matthei,
Roman Gentlewoman
The Earth laughs to the moving of the fair feet
Of the Bandina, and makes sweet odors
Make green the grasses, and make the flowers most merry,
And the air about is seen to brighten;
And the sun is gladdened, lending to us faith,
Which in the lovely eyes kindle his splendors;
And 1000 sweet little Loves
Go doing by the sweet prizes.
Beauty, and Honesty together friends,
With the other gifts beneath descend from Heaven,
Seeming in her of him are shown perfect:
Whence I, which to the lovely moving of the fair veil
Renewing without the ancient sparkles,
Lacking the chariot of the sun under such sweet object.
