Other ProWiki Changes

There are a few other differences between UseModWiki? and ProWiki, mostly due to my own personal tastes. Note that some of these make ProWiki very slightly incompatible with UseMod? data, although generally not in a devastating way.

Edit Box

The footer of most pages has an "Edit" box, as well as the usual "Search" box. Since I am mainly using ProWiki as a creative tool, I spent at least half my time editing, so having a direct way to edit (or add) a page at will is extremely convenient. Note that this takes a link name, not a page name, so you don't have to worry about normalizing. (That is, it will deal with things like spaces properly.)

Section Breaks

Ordinary UseModWiki? is smart about double-spacing -- if you put a blank line in, it comes out as a paragraph break. But it is not smart beyond that. I tend to use an extra blank line to indicate a minor section break in my writing, and that simply gets elided in UseMod?. In ProWiki, that extra blank line get interpreted as a section break, and an entire blank paragraph is stuck into the middle.

Asterisks for Emphasis

I've long tended to use asterisks to indicate emphasis in my writing (the result of decades of email). So I've adopted this as a normal formatting pattern in ProWiki. If you surround a word or a short phrase with asterisks, like this, it is translated to HTML emphasis. This is restricted, by intention: it only works if the asterisks appear to be directly attached to words, not whitespace, so that it doesn't conflict with the traditional UseMod? interpretation of asterisks to indicate bullet points.
