To the Most Illustrious and Most Excellent Lady
Lady Hieronima Colonna,
Duchess of Monte Lione

Proud Colonna, whose valor sustains
All the Roman lineages, all the honors,
Which to seem of your great fruits, budding grasses, and flowers,
Are the others prizes, and of such large hope:
Then which to mortal language it is convened
For most divine prize, which soul would be loving,
Turn drawing with joyful and fair colors
That which gold, scarlet, and carbuncle at all times maintains;
Whilst all my desire in you is leaned unto,
Whilst most bold to you I approach, and whilst
I bind myself near to the already coveted object,
Sustain you request the heart, which to left hand, and to right hand
Fearful it folds, and with novel manners
Make that which lacks in him full and perfect.
