To the Most Illustrious and Most Excellent Lady
The Lady Lavinia della Rovere,
Princess of Urbino

Beautiful eyes, eyes not heretofore, but Stars,
Rather Heavenly Sun lively, and shining;
Which with the sparkling of burning rays
You inflame in the heart a thousand little flames:
Eyes, where Love kindles his brands,
Where he refines the arrows steadfast, and sharp;
Where Heaven, nature, and the firmament
All to attempt to place the arts most fair.
Eyes, to whose desirous I raise the head
Whilst in my breast hope and fear
Are warring with their moving tempest.
Eyes, of whose most clear splendor
Of troubled thought emptied rests
In one moment the dark horror.

Occhi Leggiadri (Beautiful Eyes)
Balletto;

In Praise of the Most Illustrious and Most Excellent Lady
Princess of Urbino

The ordinary hand is taken, doing together Riverenza with the left foot, and 2 Continenze, 1 with the left, the other with the right: and letting go said hand, is done 1 Seguito with the left turned to the left, and 1 Trabuchetto with the right back flanked: then forward is done 1 Seguito with the left, and 2 Riprese to the right, and the Riverenza with the left foot.  Will be turned then to take said ordinary hand, and walking will be done 2 Passi, and 1 Seguito, starting it with the left: and the same will be done by  opposite.  Will be done then 1 Puntato with the left foot, and 1 Trabucheto with the right back, with 1 Seguito with the left, and 2 Riprese to the right, and the Riverenza with the left.  After that the right hand is taken, doing 2 Passi, and 1 Segutio, starting it with the left foot, and is let go, changing place: then they do another 2 Passi, and 1 Seguito turned to the left, starting it with the right: then is done 1 Puntata forward flanked with the left foot, and 1 Trabuchetto with the right, turning then the right flank inward; and said Trabuchetto is owed similarly to do forward, then is done 1 Seguito flanked back with the left, and 3 Trabuchetti facing, starting it with the right, and the Riverenza.  Taking then the left hand, the same is done, which as much is done to the right hand: but when said hand is let go, they have to turn to the right, returning each one to their place.

To the Sciolta of the Sonata

Together they have to do 2 Seguito spezzati flanked back, and 2 Riprese, with 1 Trabuchetto, turning the left flank inward, settling a little to the said Trabuchetto.  The same is done another turn by opposite.  After facing they have to do 1 Continenza minima, that is presta, with 4 Trabuchetti, starting it with the left foot, doing 2 Seguiti forward, starting it with the said foot:  the man has then to take the ordinary hand of the lady, and doing together the Riverenza with the left foot in the end of the Sonata, they have to finish the Ballo.

Lute tablature, with the music of the Sonata of the Balletto Occhi Leggiadri
