To the Most Illustrious Lady
The Lady Cornelia Teodola Orsina
Flame the marshy bird is not able to sing
The worthy praises, and the boundless beauty
Of you Cornelia, in whom the Heaven discharges
How much of good ever is seen, and fair.
Worthy of Her to sing well forth that,
Which to say of Ulysses had the attentive mind,
Or which Troy sung of flame enkindled,
And Mecenate, and Caesar, and Marcello.
I which to the not have of flying so much,
Nor so clear and honored trumpet,
Which to raise the might whence to ascend is worthy;
But your name, which proud in high song
Turn of the World to manner of Columbus,
The soul being silent to worship is taught.
