Historical Notes

The following were notes made while this was in development. They do not necessarily represent the final state of the thing.

A device created by the great Spark Amagog about 200 years ago. It is actually not a mirror at all, but a dimension-scanner, allowing someone to explore other realities that have counterparts of themselves, which Amagog used to learn the secrets of other versions of himself. His counterparts in several other worlds created similar devices, and the lot of them became rather frighteningly dangerous in all of their realities.

However, the device is booby-trapped. Anyone who tries to activate it incorrectly is trapped inside the mirror, in a sort of subspace limbo bubble, until released from the outside. This is what happened to Agatha -- she pushed the obvious controls, and was pulled in. However, since the primary version of Helen, as well as Mirror-Agatha, were both activating their devices at the same time, it all set off a massive feedback, pulling them into this world.

It is relatively easy to free Agatha from stasis: a button on the device lights up when it has someone inside, intended so that Amagog could release his prisoner at his leisure. Getting the others back to their own worlds should probably be a trickier puzzle. Sarah should probably have the necessary clues to activate the device without setting off the trap.

Justin 12/30: Much of the above is now obsolete. The Mirror does, in fact, allow the viewing and transportation to different dimensions, but the booby-trap is reality-based. When Agatha springs the trap, she is transformed into Maria.

As discussed in the Replicators plot, the Mirror is controlled via music as much as anything. Primitive operations can be performed via tools like the Eye of Amagog (in Beetle's possession), but proper control requires playing appropriate music. Every bit of music tunes it to a different scene, some on this world and some on others. Winslow's world is viewed via the Sorceror's Apprentice. We need to go through and figure out who has musical skill, which gives them the ability to control the viewing more precisely. Agatha is clearly the best at this, especially when using the Silverodeon, but there should be others with at least reasonable skill at it.

The Mirror is supposed to be controlled by the Clockwork Crystal. If that is plugged into it, the slightest hum will activate the Mirror and begin viewing; someone can then jump through the Mirror, a la City on the Edge of Forever, to go to the viewed space. It can potentially also be controlled by either Agatha or Mirror-Agatha playing the Silverodeon (which is powerful and complex enough to control the Mirror directly, without the Crystal), or by Dingbot Prime going into the Crystal's pedestal and manually fiddling the gears.
