Original Heterodyne Story

Way back, in the ages before the ken of man, there was Grimjack. Set in Cynosure (the archetypal City Between the Universes), it was mostly the story of the adventurer/soldier/noir detective who dealt with the dirty jobs. Fun enough story, but was never the most important thing in my collection, so when I got a good offer, I sold the series.

But there was one additional thing. In the back of most issues was Munden's Bar, one of the strangest backup series ever. Set in the bar that Grimjack owned, it was the closest thing that comics have ever had to Callahan's -- the bar where anything could happen. And in issue 40, the thing that happened was Bill and Barry Heterodyne.

This is the very first Heterodyne Story, as far as I know. It's never been reprinted, and Phil and Kaja seem to quietly avoid talking about it, presumably because it is so incompatible with current Girl Genius continuity. But I scanned it in before selling my copy, and it's worth taking a read through, because this game is loosely an homage to it, and for the moment I'm leaving open the possibility that the game might wander into Cynosure briefly. (Amagog is still alive and well, and has been hanging out there for the past two centuries.)

(Yes, I fear I have to leave it out of this public wiki. It's still under copyright, so I really can't leave it here. Hopefully they'll someday reprint this delightfully odd bit of whimsy.)
