Plot: Lab Rats

Summary: Bang has standing orders to capture any interesting Constructs so that Klaus can study them -- and few Constructs are as interesting as Krosp and Artie. And Silas generally wants to study Artie, who seems to be strangely other-worldly.

Description

Klaus von Wulfenbach has many interests -- almost all fields of science interest him -- but none moreso than biology. Playing with Constructs, and understanding how biological entities tick, is his principal passion. He, therefore, has standing orders: all particularly interesting Constructs are to be brought to him for study. DuPree is well aware of these orders, and has brought him many of his best specimens. (In her case, he was very clear that they are to be brought to him alive and intact -- the first few were brought in the form of filets, and he wasn't happy.) Gil knows about the orders also, but tends to actively flout them: his father is a little too fond of examining things to death, and he's had enough death lately.

Of course, the game includes two of the most intriguing Constructs anywhere. Krosp is remarkably intelligent for a Construct, and the orders should be clear that highly intelligent Constructs are especially interesting. (After all, studying brains is one of Klaus' particular interests.) Artie is even more interesting: not just a midrange-Spark level of intelligence, but a shapeshifter to boot. So while her character sheet shouldn't mention them by name, she should have clear motivation to capture them and bring them back. It's not a high priority, but it's a side-plot for her to play with.

At the same time, Silas is just as interested in Artie, for completely different reasons. He is a creature from another dimension, and Silas wants to examine him and see if he can learn anything about dimensional travel from him. If Silas succeeds in examining Artie closely, we should probably give him a hint about DC-style "vibrational frequencies" being slightly different from those of this world, hinting at how the Mirror of Amagog actually works.

Considerations for Next Time

Beef up this plot a little in Silas and DuPree's character sheets.
