The following were notes while the character was evolving. They do not necessarily represent the way it came out.
Master Payne's assistant. Abner is (v4, 14) a nice guy, maybe a little too much so -- it appears that he will instinctively offer help, even when it isn't within his purview to do so. Lars' roommate, as we see on (v5, p28).
When push comes to shove, Abner can be pretty gutsy, even standing up to Gil and DuPree when he needs to (v4, p48). He also plays off Pix quite well -- their good-cop/bad-cop routine in this section is very convincing. Their relationship is interesting and stormy, with each periodically overpowering the other. Both are very sure in their convictions, and both tend to make decisions easily; when they disagree, the one who is surer that they are right usually wins.
There is a pretty clear implication on (v5, p28) that Abner and Pix are sleeping together. But as we see on the next page, he's still shy about taking the next step and actually proposing. This might become a plot, if we have some good romantic players in the game. Maybe Abner wants to propose, but doesn't feel he can do so until, say, he has enough of a small stake of his own? Maybe he is hoping to find some treasure in Amagog's Castle?
