Who Killed the Con-Chair?
Character Sheet -- For Your Eyes Only!

John M. Corrado Jr.

You are John M. Corrado Jr., new President of the ILF.  And it doesn't look like this job is going to get easy any time soon.

You've been involved with the ILF for many years; starting as a field agent, you worked your way up to Vortex Mechanic, and eventually wound up in the administrative arm of the Foundation.  You still aren't sure that this was the best idea -- being the field is, frankly, more fun -- but someone has to do the dirty work of keeping the Foundation, and its important work, functioning.

You're here to personally oversee this Vortex, because it is looking to be big; maybe the biggest in recorded history.  Everyone is a little on edge -- the Foundation has been feverishly bringing in every agent it can get its hands on, and even recruiting some new ones from the ranks of the promising civilians who have been under observation for a while.  You're even personally running a couple of missions yourself, because the ranks of the Vortex Mechanics are looking to be so stretched by this particular minefield.  The Mechanics at ILF Central down in Washington have predicted something on the order of 25 separate small Vortices, plus one mega-Vortex late Saturday night.  That's the one that really worries you.

At the time this mission was being set up, putting Jeff Diewald in charge seemed to make sense; though he was himself a Vortex of Chaos, he was a sincere, hard worker for the ILF, and putting him to work was one of the surest ways to keep an eye on him.  But it looks increasingly like that Chaos Vortex has just exacerbated things, which are rapidly spiraling out of control.

You have several major concerns.  First is: what the hell happened to Diewald?  Dig Freedman was supposed to be the field agent in charge of managing him, and making sure he didn't cause too much trouble, but he doesn't seem to have protected his charge very well.  And why would anyone decide to kill a Chaos Vortex?  You're concerned that someone is blaming Diewald for the Vortex that surrounds him, a dangerously mistaken attitude, and one that could put Gail Peck, the other Chaos Vortex on this side of the country, in real jeopardy.

Then there's Bob Enfield, who is now in charge of the convention.  He's been around for a while, and seems to be confident and hard-working, but there is simply something that creeps you out about the guy -- you've never entirely cared for him.  Is it possible that he might have killed Diewald to get the job as head of the mission?  That's crazy, but you've seen stranger things happen around Vortices.  (God, listen to yourself -- you're starting to think like one of those nutcases over in the Millennium Group.  Get a grip.)  Anyway, you don't have anything more concrete here than a gut instinct, so you shouldn't go tossing any accusations around.  Yet.

Which brings you to the increasingly tense situation with the Group.  In the past few years, the ILF and the Millennium Group have been increasingly at odds, which is not how anyone intended things to be.  The Group was simply a relatively concerned bunch of Vortex Mechanics who were following up some mathematical projections, which formed their own branch.  But lately you've noticed a growing rivalry between the Foundation and the Group.  Agents of both are increasingly cynical about each other, and are having more trouble working together.  It's not doing anyone any good, and may begin actively causing trouble soon.  You need to try to find some time to talk to Stephanie this weekend, and see if the two of you can patch things up between your forces.  It would just be so much easier if the Group was a little less prone to ranting about killers, and Armageddon, and suchlike.  They are taking their math quite a bit too literally, which makes it hard for some of your more mainstream agents to take them seriously.

Speaking of Stephanie, you also need to look into Gordon's situation.  While you haven't noticed anything yourself, you have started to head some rumors that his behaviour has been a little erratic lately; nothing concrete, but enough to worry you.  President of the ILF is a hard job, but also a plum one.  It's possible that being forced to step down at the end of his term of office has affected him badly.  Make sure that he doesn't resent you for taking over, or anything like that.  There seems to be a lot of stress around.  You've also heard that Charley Sumner is a bit peeved over being discouraged from asking to be Con-chair for this mission, and has been a little cranky; if you get a chance to talk to him, you might think about asking him to take a leadership position a little further down the line...
