The High Church of Elvis was created to spread the King's word among the people. The Church was created by those holy few who have actually seen His starship, and spoken, however briefly, with Him. He bade them go forth and tell everyone who would listen about the True Music, and about the King's Mission. For He is not merely flitting about in spaceships -- no, He is a true Hero, fighting for the good and right. He leads the spaceships against those who would harm peace and harmony among the spacelanes.
You joined the Church a few years ago, drawn in by the Holy Voice. Minister Young recruited you personally, to help him tell others the truth about the King -- how He gave up His gold records to save the people of the galaxy from the menaces around it. Sadly, all the public wants to know about Elvis is sightings of him in every supermarket and bar. But the Minister has told you how none of that can be true, for Elvis is among the stars, never to return to his humble origins again. Yet His spirit and teaching must be kept alive.
Sadly, not all are willing to hear the truth. There are many who scoff, but the worst are the Luddites. Perhaps they are merely misguided, as the Minister says, but that doesn't make it much easier to forgive them. They would tear down the word of the King, saying that his spaceships are unholy. How can anyone believe such a thing? Surely it is right and just that the King of Earth would travel the stars, in an appropriate chariot. The very concept that technology could be evil -- when it is serving such a Holy cause! Somehow, these people have to be brought under control, and made to understand the righteous truth of the King.
Part of the Church's Holy Mission is to track, record, and categorize all Elvis sightings. There has been much excitement in the past few months, for the number of sightings has increased enormously; it sometimes seems like Elvis is being seen on every streetcorner. It is generally known that such a growth in sightings has been predicted to presage the Return of the King; it's too much to hope, but you still find yourself praying that He might yet return, and you might have a chance to actually see him in person, even touch him. Truly, these are glorious days...
