Who Killed the Con-Chair?
Character Sheet -- For Your Eyes Only!

Charles Sumner

You are Senator Charles Sumner, a man who has been pushed well beyond the brink, and who is now going to get back some of his own.

You come from a simpler, saner world, one of honor and common sense, a time when a man of honor such as yourself could get ahead.  You were a success, a powerful member of the US Senate, until the Vortex came.

At the time, you had little idea what was happening, save that suddenly your world turned upside-down.  The Senate floor erupted with violence, and you were beaten to within an inch of your life.  You were a broken man after that; the world had ceased to make sense -- until the day the Vortex took you.

You found yourself suddenly flung through space and time, now in the form of a younger man; somehow being sent forward through time de-aged you.  Your age and infirmities melted away, but the anger remained; the anger against those who would render the world senseless and violent.

You discovered the ILF, the people who "investigate" these Vortices, and became an agent of theirs, under the guise of trying to help them control these powerful natural forces.  But they couldn't conceal the truth from you -- they were causing the Vortices, manipulating them for their own evil ends.  Spreading violence and evil throughout the universe.  Selling out the people, in the name of power.  Well, you won't have any of it.

You've made common cause with a like-minded group, the Toastbusters.  These are people who, like you, have been dragged out of their proper places by these nefarious evildoers.  Most of the Toastbusters naively believe that their appearance on 20th-century Earth is an accident, but you know better; the monsters have brought them here, as experiments.  But you will show them.  You'll show them all.

You tried to gain control over the next Vortex, by volunteering to organize Intercon 13.  But the officers of the ILF "discouraged" you.  You were "overstressed", they said; you would do better trying again later.  It was the final straw -- they weren't even going to give you the dignity of assuming some control over your own destiny in this way.  Well, you would make sure that no one else would be able to do it next time.

The note was, you thought, concise and to the point.  It told them how they would perish, without telling them who would be the instrument of their end.  Just to be on the safe side, you sent it to all of the past Con-chairs, as well as the projected future ones.  (If you left the past ones around, they might be brought back to run the next one.)  And then you sent your little "presents".  Unlabeled bottles, with a quick and terrible poison.  Not to all of them yet; the older ones go first, then the newer ones.  Work through the early ones first, before you get to the monster herself, Stephanie Olmstead-Dean.  (Whose so-called "Millenium Group" is surely working towards the Apocalypse as quickly as possible.)  All of them must go.  Even the blood of your blood, Randi, who has betrayed you to these evil people, must perish...

But you decided that you had better get rid of Jeff Diewald now.  Best to make a clear statement that those who represent the evil ILF will pay for it.  You heard that Diewald was going to drink a toast at opening ceremonies, so you simply placed a poison-laced bottle on the side where it would be taken.  You were slightly concerned when you noticed that it wasn't the only bottle up there, but from Diewald's satisfying demise, it is clear that fortune was on your side.

It all went quite well; Diewald is gone, and the rest will follow.  But now you need to lie low, and divert suspicion.  They are growing suspicious, and you can feel their clammy fingers breathing down your neck.  But they will all pay.  Oh, yes, so they shall...

Player Note:  Just in case it isn't clear, you are completely and utterly cracked, pretty totally psychopathic and just barely keeping it internalized.  Have fun...
